M.I.O.S. Announces Debut Mini-Album
Somewhere Deep Below
An immersive soundtrack to films that don’t exist.

Release Date: November 8, 2024

Mysterious new music project M.I.O.S.—a collaboration between music industry veteran AJWT (see: Midgar, Son of Simon) and the enigmatic, faceless artist known only as O—announces the release of its debut mini-album, Somewhere Deep Below. Set to launch on November 8, 2024, the album is available now for pre-save on Spotify and pre-order on iTunes.

Somewhere Deep Below is a collection of sonic journeys, imagined as the soundtracks to films that don’t exist. Crafted remotely during the lockdowns of 2020, M.I.O.S. has created a haunting, genre-fluid exploration of deep, mystical spaces—both internal and external. With no allegiance to any one musical style, M.I.O.S. moves freely through cinematic soundscapes, inviting listeners to lose themselves in music that defies boundaries and labels.

Inspired by the sounds of artists like Agnes Obel, Chemical Brothers, RY X, Moderat, and Daughter, the album is rooted in atmospheric intensity and electronic undercurrents, weaving a tapestry of sound that is as eerie as it is expansive. But don’t expect a simple homage to these influences—M.I.O.S. bends and twists their sounds into something entirely new and enigmatic.

One of the standout tracks, “Murder Death Kill,” features a darkly satirical take on power and privilege. The track imagines the delusional inner monologue of a figure reminiscent of a Boris Johnson/Godzilla hybrid, who, while completely unaware of the destruction he causes, envisions himself as a benevolent hero. This absurd image of a champagne-drinking monster obliviously trampling the public beneath him captures the sharp, biting commentary M.I.O.S. is unafraid to deliver.

In M.I.O.S., AJ brings decades of experience as a composer, filmmaker, rock band frontman, and even voice actor for erotic audio platform Quinn, while his collaborator, O, remains shrouded in mystery. Together, they’ve crafted an album that taps into something both primal and otherworldly, aimed squarely at “weirdos and misfits”—the curious, the unconventional, and the strange.

M.I.O.S. is ready to transport listeners to a place Somewhere Deep Below, where music becomes the film.
